If a particular page on a site does not load for some reason or if a link is not functioning, the website visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, that may make the visitor leave your site. A solution in such a case is a feature offered by some website hosting providers - the option to set your own custom-made error pages which will have exactly the same design as your site and which can contain any images or text which you want based on the specific error. There are four standard errors which may occur and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it can't be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see some page, but you haven't done this yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a certain page; and 404, if a link which you've clicked leads to a file that doesn't exist. In all of these situations, visitors shall be able to see your custom made content instead of a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Hosting

You will be able to set up custom error pages for any of your websites with ease if you use any of our Linux hosting packages. This could be done using the Hosted Domains part of the Hepsia CP, provided with all accounts and when you go there, you'll be able to set your personalized pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You must upload the files to your account ahead of time and input the links to them through the process. This function may be de-activated at any time and the options you will be able to select from are a conventional page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Tailor-made error pages may be set with an .htaccess file as well. The file should be placed in the domain or subdomain folder and it must contain some system code and links to the pages. If you are not tech-savvy, you could copy the whole content needed for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All of the Linux semi-dedicated packages that we supply support tailor-made error pages and it shall not take more than a couple of clicks in your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel to use this function. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your CP in which you'll have to input the links to the custom-made files via basic drop-down menus and a user-friendly interface. Needless to say, you have to upload them to your account before that. In case you don't need to employ this function at some point, you will be able to disable it just as fast and select an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable whenever your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to permit the custom error pages. The file should have a specific line of code plus a link for each and every error type and you can easily discover an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
